Am I imagining things, or
did July go by way too fast?
Wouldn’t it be great to
have more time for all the activities we’d like to participate in each
summer? Instead, we cram as much into
each weekend as we can and still don’t get around to all we want to be
doing. Perhaps the problem isn’t that we
can’t do all of the things we want as much as it is that we want to be doing
too much.
Take an average day’s
meals. How often are you just sitting
and enjoying the food God has blessed you with?
If you’re like me, you’ve got something else going on as well, such as
reading the paper, looking through the mail or watching television. I hate to admit it, but there are evenings
when I take my dinner to the computer so that I can catch up on my work as I
eat. Not only am I missing out on time
with my family, I am also missing out on time with
God.
Life shouldn’t be this
hectic. We need to take the time to
“enjoy” what God has blessed us with.
Why do you suppose Paul began each of his epistles with the words, “Grace and peace to you from God our Father
and from the Lord Jesus Christ” (or some variation of this sentiment)? Could it be, perhaps, that (like us) these
churches needed a reminder?
Peace is certainly lacking
in most of our lives. Whether we find
ourselves rushing through a flurry of activities, or worrying about unpaid
bills, or stressing over the state of the world we live in, most of us don’t
take the time to experience the peace that Jesus extends to us. So, my letter is short this month to give you
more time for experiencing this peace.
Treat yourself to some special “quiet time” with our Lord. Take Paul’s words to heart and “Let the peace of Christ rule in your
hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be
thankful.” (
In His service,
